Pickering, ON, May 6, 2020 – The City of Pickering Public Library Board is pleased to announce the appointment of Jackie Flowers as CEO & Director of Libraries, Pickering Public Library effective May 6, 2020.

Jackie has spent the past eight years at the Calgary Public Library (CPL) and was most recently its Director, Service Design. She played a leadership role in the grand opening of Calgary’s new Central Library – a landmark facility which has garnered international acclaim for its architectural brilliance, as well as industry recognition for its exceptional and visceral patron experiences within.

In Service Design, Jackie led the innovation renaissance of CPL by managing dozens of teams and projects, utilizing a design-thinking framework that applied empathy, curiosity and prototyping to achieve the organizational goals. Some of her key accomplishments include designing a unique learning space for school-aged kids in the new Central Library, spearheading new partnerships with the University of Calgary and University of Alberta, and launching a bookmobile service to meet the needs of under-serviced communities.

Prior to her time at CPL, Jackie worked at Deloitte as a CPA for several years. Her accounting skills and experience enabled her to manage aggregate budgets of approximately $13M for Indigenous language projects, service design, and library material acquisitions.  Combined, her visionary leadership and keen financial acumen will ensure that the Pickering Public Library remains near the forefront of Canada’s municipal library landscape.

The Pickering Public Library has approximately 43,000 active members and is one of the highest used, well-supported and award-winning libraries in the province. Pickering is a vibrant, connected, and engaged community that is experiencing both significant economic and residential growth. It continues to evolve into a preferred destination for creative learning, memorable events, and unique experiences, and Jackie will play an instrumental role in ensuring the Pickering Public Library remains a key community hub now and into the future.

As the gateway to the east GTA, Pickering (population 94,000) is strategically located where Toronto, York and Durham Regions meet. An award-winning municipality, Pickering is slated for significant economic and residential growth; offering an unparalleled quality of life for those who live, work, and play here. Its dynamic City Centre has been designated by the Province of Ontario as both an Urban Growth Centre and Mobility Hub, and continues to evolve as a preferred destination for creative learning, memorable events, and unique experiences at the heart of a vibrant, connected, and engaged community.
