Our 2013 Symposium on libraries and the making movement was a great success so we’ve planned an update!  Join this year’s Symposium to hear about what’s happening in this new and innovative space, learn about scholarly research and current good practices, have great conversations, and get a roadmap to build your own creative making space!

One of the hottest trends today is FabLabs, 3D printing, Makerspaces, Arduino and the connection of libraries to creation, learning and invention.  This symposium looks at the current North American landscape, opportunities for research, learning alignment, programs, practices and experiences of pioneers in this space. It shares the experiences of Canadian and U.S. libraries setting up makerspaces and provides a roadmap for those about to create their own makerspace, FabLab, or innovation and learning space.

Dysart & Jones Associates have assembled a stellar crew of the leading thinkers and innovators in the fields of critical making.  Attendees will tour the University of Toronto iSchool Semaphore Research Lab, hear of innovations in FabLabs and Makerspaces in libraries in Canada, explore the use of maker technology, and learn the connections to strategies for research, community and education.

Many industries, as well as libraries, and other cultural institutions have embraced the maker revolution.  This two-day symposium illustrates the breadth and depth of the revolution, shares exciting programs already being pioneered and suggests areas for future endeavours.  It features leading edge thinkers, scholars, and practitioners, includes a tour of the University of Toronto’s Critical Making Lab and focuses on strategies for libraries and other educational institutions.
