Parliamentary Assistant Mandate Letters
In an earlier posting we shared mandate letters from the Premier for each Ontario ministry, publicly released for the first time. The Government of Ontario has now released mandate letters for Parliamentary Assistants. This is a role held by an MPP which supports a minister in various ways, including leading new legislation on committees and consultations, representing the minister in the House and helping to strengthen the ministry overall.

The nonprofit sector was mentioned in each letter by ministers, as it was in the Premier’s ministerial mandate letters. The sector was recognized as one of the partners working in collaboration with the government to deliver on their commitments to the people they serve. While much of the content is consistent with the policy focus and responsibilities in the ministerial mandate letters, there may be some new information that relates to your organization’s activities. See all 32 letters.

The letter for the PA to the Minister of Tourism, Culture & Sport (http://www.ontario.ca/government/2014-parliamentary-assistant-mandate-letter-tourism-culture-and-sport) emphasizes First Nations and makes specific mention of libraries.  This could be a VERY good thing.
