Richmond Hill Public Library Board Announces New CEO

The Richmond Hill Public Library Board is excited to announce Darren Solomon as the new CEO of Richmond Hill Public Library (RHPL), effective July 6, 2020. Solomon was chosen after an extensive search of leaders in various industries.

“Throughout our recruitment process, Darren presented himself as a strong believer in the power of knowledge to enrich and change lives,” says Greg Beros, Board Chair, Richmond Hill Public Library Board . “As our library pivots to the needs of our growing community, I’m confident that Darren’s expertise will provide us with strategic leadership, innovative practices, and modern efficiencies that will continue to keep libraries relevant.”

A longtime resident of Richmond Hill, Solomon becomes the Library’s CEO after 13 years in leadership roles with Cineplex, one of Canada’s leading entertainment and media companies. Solomon was most recently the Senior Vice President, Growth & Experience Strategies for Cineplex Digital Media, an industry-leading digital experience agency for retailers. He also has extensive experience in connecting with communities and developing content through various roles at CTV and CBC. Solomon’s dedication to customer-driven innovation and his experience with positioning, branding and scaling business will support the Library’s vision of delivering continued growth and value to the community.

“Libraries have such a rich heritage as a cornerstone of any community, and I have always felt they are an accessible and inclusive source for curiosity and personal development for all ages and stages of life,” says Solomon. “Like many other industries, libraries have been disrupted and have opportunities to adapt and grow in the changing landscape of our world. I’m excited to join the Richmond Hill Public Library team to reimagine the possibilities of what the Library can mean for our community in the future. I look forward to engaging with our residents, supporting our staff, and building on the amazing services the Library already provides.”

Upon assuming his new role, Solomon will work closely with the City of Richmond Hill and the RHPL Board, staff and community to form the Library’s new strategic plan, while also guiding the Library through Ontario’s framework for reopening the province.
