Good Morning Colleagues,

In February of 2020, we wrote to inform you that the SOLS and OLS-North boards had struck a Joint Amalgamation Committee. Its primary responsibility was to conduct an in-depth exploration and discussion on amalgamation of the two organizations. Since February, the committee has completed the due diligence review to identify any barriers or concerns with regard to a merger.

A final report from the Joint Amalgamation Committee was submitted to the OLS – North and SOLS Boards at special meetings held on May 28th and 29th, respectively. In both cases, the boards accepted the recommendation of the Committee to proceed with the merger and to establish a Joint Transition Committee to negotiate the Amalgamation Agreement. This Committee is comprised of the Chairs, Vice Chairs and CEOs of OLS – North and SOLS. Once completed, the Amalgamation Agreement will be presented to each board for final approval in the fall of 2020. The goal is to have the new amalgamated organization up and running by April 1st, 2021 to coincide with the new fiscal year.

Throughout this process, we, along with the SOLS and OLS – North Boards, remain dedicated to providing the best service possible to Ontario’s Public Libraries. Over the coming months, we will be engaging with you, in a dialogue that will inform our future directions. Through a combination of a survey and focus groups, we will seek your input so we can shape our services to best serve you. Please stay tuned!

En février 2020, nous vous avions informés que le Conseil du Service des bibliothèques de l’Ontario – Sud et le Conseil du Service des bibliothèques de l’Ontario – Nord avaient formé un comité conjoint pour examiner la fusion des deux organismes. Le mandat de ce comité était d’étudier et d’évaluer en profondeur la possibilité d’une fusion. Le comité a mené à bien son mandat dans un esprit de diligence raisonnable et déterminé les obstacles ou préoccupations entourant la possibilité d’une fusion.

Le comité conjoint a soumis son rapport final aux deux conseils lors de réunions extraordinaires tenues le 28 mai (SBO – Nord) et le 29 mai (SBO – Sud). Les deux conseils ont accepté la recommandation du comité conjoint, soit de procéder à une fusion et de former un comité de transition conjoint pour établir les modalités de l’entente de fusion. Le comité est composé des présidences, des vice-présidences et des directions générales du SBO – Nord et du SBO – Sud. L’entente de fusion sera soumise à l’approbation finale des conseils à l’automne 2020. L’objectif est de lancer le nouvel organisme fusionné le 1er avril 2021, date qui coïncidera avec le début du nouvel exercice financier.

Tout au long de cette démarche, nous demeurerons déterminées à fournir les meilleurs services possible aux bibliothèques publiques de l’Ontario. Les conseils d’administration des deux organismes appuient fermement cet engagement. Au cours des prochains mois, nous tiendrons un dialogue avec vous pour fixer nos orientations futures. Nous vous inviterons à répondre à un questionnaire et à participer à des groupes de discussion. Ainsi, nous pourrons façonner nos services en fonction de vos besoins. D’autres nouvelles suivront.
