Website Launch Announcement

Ontario Library Service – North is launching two new websites that support First Nation Public Library initiatives. The sites can be found on the First Nation Library Services homepage. These resources are available for use by libraries province-wide.

The First Nation Languages Portal was initiated in 2015 as part of a larger Language Revitalization Project. The goal of the Language Revitalization Project is to provide high-level assistance to First Nation Public Libraries in their varying efforts to revitalize and retain traditional languages within their communities. This portal is a central information system for various language-related resources. As First Nation communities become increasingly invested in the protection of culture and language, the roles of First Nation Public Libraries will continue to change and grow over the coming years. First Nation Languages portal focuses on the following three topics:Librarian’s CornerCollection Development, and Resources.
Since 2000, First Nations Public Libraries have used one week of the year to raise awareness of their resources, services, programs and activities. First Nations Public Library Week is not only an opportunity to promote public library services, but it also celebrates cultural uniqueness through creative library programming. First Nations Public Library Week is an event that can be enjoyed by library patrons and community members across the province. First Nations Public Library Week is celebrated the first week of October as apart of Canadian Library Month. Visit the First Nations Public Library Week website to review the program history and future additions.
