An invitation from Sali Lafrenie at LAC to their lecture series co-hosted with Carleton University, available via streaming or in person for the national capital region.
The Shannon Lectures in History will host speaker Emily Guerrero and they will talk about taking gossip seriously as an information practice. Emily currently works as a community librarian. The event will be hosted in the Pellan Room at Library and Archives Canada (LAC) in Ottawa, and streamed live, allowing people from various locations to attend. The theme is call and response, and the series will feature speakers who have experience and knowledge in the following fields: journalism, sports, archives, community libraries, video games, black studies, and history.
Lecture Series: CALL & RESPONSE | APPEL ET RÉPONSE
Calling all public historians, archivists, librarians, and more! The Shannon Lectures, co-hosted by Carleton University and Library and Archives Canada (LAC), begin September 2026. This year’s theme is inspired by the concept of call and response, where speakers are invited to share how they address gaps in their field, work with communities, and imagine new approaches. While the archive isn’t the usual gathering place (ex. the kitchen table, the living room, the community centre), maybe there’s something to be gained by showing up anyway. Join us and find out for yourself. All lectures will be hybrid. Those in the National Capital Region are also invited to hangout in the community reading corner.
