CFLA is sharing information about the new IFLA expression of interest process, and will assist in coordinating nominations in Canada once the nomination period begins. Most members of Canadian library associations are members of IFLA through CFLA’s membership. Please note that due to the European timezone for the deadline, CFLA recommends that you submit your expressions of interest by December 8.

The time has come: a chance to boost your career and help shape the future of global librarianship! This year, we’re excited to add a call for Expressions of Interest phase to the elections process.
Every two years, IFLA holds elections to various positions and committees. By volunteering, you can gain access to global conversations, to a network of peers who share ideas and inspiration, and to the opportunity to highlight national and local experience on the world stage.
Starting today, we invite you to apply for the following positions and committees:
- President-elect
- Treasurer
- Governing Board members-at-large
- Chair of the Regional Council
- Chair of the Professional Council
- Chairs of the Professional Divisions
- Professional Section Standing Committees
- Regional Division Committees
- Advisory Committee Chairs
- Advisory Committees
- Review Groups
- Special Interest Groups
But note that an expression of interest for a position must be submitted by 09 December 2026, 17:00 CET.

No matter where you are in your career – whether you’re a new professional, a seasoned librarian, or somewhere in between – and regardless of where you are based, we believe everyone with a passion for libraries, knowledge sharing and community impact belongs in an IFLA role.
How do I participate?
If you’re interested in standing for a role, do so by using the online platform for Expressions of Interest.
At this stage, you do not need to seek a nominator. In January 2027, IFLA Members and Affiliates will be invited to nominate and support applicants for positions and committees for which they are eligible to nominate.
Looking ahead
The elections process consists of three key phases:
- Submissions of Expressions of Interest for a position and committee
- Nomination of applicants by IFLA Members and Affiliates
- Election and voting on candidates by IFLA Members and Affiliates
Submitting an expression of interest is required in order to go on to the next phases.
Key dates
28 October 2026
Opening of the Expressions of Interest phase for all IFLA positions and committees.
09 December 2026
Expressions of Interest phase closes. No applications will be accepted after this date.
06 January 2027
Nominations phase opens for the IFLA Members and Affiliates only.
17 February 2027
Nominations phase closes.
03 March 2027
Elections open for positions and committees where there are more candidates than available places.
31 March 2027
Elections close.
12 April 2027
Results announced. Those roles which are appointed (Advisory Committee members and chairs, Review Group members, Special Interest Group members) should also be announced around this time.
NOTE: The 2027 Elections will be managed by IFLA together with Mi-Voice . Throughout this process, potential candidates, current volunteers on our committees and IFLA Members and Affiliates will be engaging with Mi-Voice on their platform.
