Dear FOPL Members,
Forwarded to you via e-mail was the Federation’s letter to SOLS and OLS-N following our consultation session on August 19, 2008 regarding the allocation of the $15 million grant.
The attachments with regard to my message can be found here:
- “This letter summarizes the highlights of yesterday’s discussion and supplements the Federation’s original submission to you dated June 16, 2008.”
- “Minister of Culture dated August 5, 2008, in which she places a high priority on researching and gathering statistics on library-hosted literacy programs.”
- “In addition to presenting the three recommendations above, we tabled a new proposal for piloting a provincial distributed network for accessing e-materials and on-line resources, a collaborative project between the Federation, Knowledge Ontario and SOLS/OLS-N.”
Our submission tries to remain true to the ideas suggested during our listserv survey of members last May, even though the specific criteria for the grant were not known at the time.
An interesting footnote is that we received input from 43 member libraries during the May survey, with the following breakdown: Large Urban (5), Northern (12), Rural (10), Small/Medium (16), Francophone (0), and First Nations (0).
Overall, our consultation with SOLS and OLS-N went very well.
