Freedom to Read Week will be celebrated in libraries across Canada from Feb. 23 to 29, 2020. This annual event is a reminder to our community, along with Canadians in general, to reaffirm their commitment to intellectual freedom which is guaranteed under the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms. The Grande Prairie Public Library supports the Canadian Federation of Library Associations’ Position Statement on Intellectual Freedom which states that “all persons in Canada have the fundamental right, subject only to the Constitution and the law, to have access to the full range of knowledge, imagination, ideas, and opinion, and to express their thoughts publicly. Only the courts may abridge free expression rights in Canada.”
