Total Operating Expenditures and Materials Expenditures, 2001-2010, by Bands

FOPL Data Report, Week 5 + primer

The Ministry’s data on Ontario’s public libraries include a number of expenditure variables. In previous weekly reports, we have dealt with two which are analyzed further this week: Total Operating Expenditures and General Materials Expenditures. Clearly both are important to the mission of libraries. Materials Expenditures are a subset of Total Operating Expenditures. We now add Electronic Materials Expenditures and, as one would expect, this category of expenditure increased from 2001-2010 while General Materials Expenditures fell as a percentage of Total Operating Expenditures in most.

There are ten tables to accompany this report in four pages, with a chart of the increases in electronic periodical titles over the period. The first three pages include summary data for the nine Bands for each year, with calculations of percent increases from 2001 to 2010, as well as percents of the Total Operating Expenditures represented by Materials and Electronic Expenditures. The fourth page has summary data using the last line in each of the nine Band tables, that is, the data for 2010 which include a calculation of percent of growth of the main variables analyzed here. The chart shows one place where these electronic materials expenditures were spent.
