Changes Reported for Select Digital Materials, 2001-2010, Ontario Public Libraries

FOPL Data Report, Week 8

Last week we analyzed data reported about the programs offered by the Ontario public
libraries and attendance at them for each of the size Bands we have discussed in other reports. The data show general increases in both programs and attendance and also reveal a commitment by these libraries to support and extend these programs. Given the changes in the information environment, this commitment is admirable.

There are variables reporting on collections at these libraries and this week, we have selected those dealing with digital materials. This table is formatted like others in these Reports with the years from 2001 to 2010 across the top and the data by year listed for each of the years.

The variables are listed in the column on the left and the rightmost columns have percentage increases from 2001 to 2010 and from 2005-2010. In last week’s report, these increases over the period for all of the Ontario libraries varied but impressive given the human resources which were involved. The actual numbers of programs and their attendance was impressive, too: 3 million people attended 160,000 programs in 2010.
