The Ontario Library Association (OLA) has recently launched the Inclusive Librarianship: State of the Sector Survey as part of its ongoing commitment to becoming an anti-racist organization. This initiative aims to gather critical data on the state of equity, diversity, and inclusion (EDI) within the Ontario library and information sector. The results will directly inform OLA’s anti-racism strategy, addressing barriers to entry for IBPOC (Indigenous, Black, and People of Colour) library professionals, as well as other systemic challenges related to equity and inclusion.

To ensure this survey is as impactful as possible, OLA is seeking participation from a broad range of voices within Ontario’s library community, including:

  • OLA members and non-members
  • IBPOC and non-IBPOC/white library staff
  • Former OLA members

In particular, OLA encourages non-IBPOC/white library staff to participate, recognizing that addressing racism and advancing inclusion is a shared responsibility across the entire community.

By participating in the survey, individuals can contribute to shaping OLA’s strategies to improve equity and inclusion within the sector. We hope you will consider sharing this survey widely across your networks, within your library system, and among your colleagues in the Ontario library and information sector.

If you have any questions or concerns regarding the survey, please do not hesitate to reach out for further clarification.

Thank you for your time, support, and commitment to advancing equity in the library sector.
