PENDING LEGISLATION/ REGULATIONS

Bill 202, Education Statute Law Amendment Act(Electronic Sexual Material), was introduced into the Ontario Legislature as a Private Member’s Bill on September 16, 2009 by a member of an opposition party. The Bill received 2nd Reading on October 1, and was referred to the Standing Committee on Regulations and Private Bills. So far, the Bill has not appeared on the agendas of this committee. If it does, the committee’s review could involve public hearings. Federation members were sent a copy of a letter we sent to Premier McGuinty thanking him for his public statement against mandatory Internet filtering in public libraries and that responsibility ultimately lies with parents for dealing with this important and complex issue.
