Join the Ontario School Library Association (OSLA) in letting the provincial government know that every student in Ontario deserves a properly funded and staffed school library!

In April 2024, the Ministry of Education released its new education funding model which eliminated the only protected funding envelope for school library staff and resources. Teacher-Librarians, previously considered critical to student success, are now put in the same funding category as Chromebooks and crayons. The new funding model also eliminates the government’s own accountability measures implemented in 2021 – school boards are no longer required to report to the Ministry of Education on how or if they’re funding school libraries or aligning with provincial expectations.

Ontario school libraries have been in crisis for the past two decades. Now, without accountability or enveloped funding, school boards will continue to cut school library funding in response to growing budgetary challenges province-wide.
