W. Kaye Lamb Award for Service to Seniors

Now is the time for Canadian libraries to tell us about their outstanding service to seniors.

Every other year, the Federation of Canadian Library Associations / Fédération canadienne des associations de bibliothèques  and ExLibris invite Canadian libraries to be considered for the W. Kaye Lamb Award.

The award is given to that library which offers innovative and excellent service to their senior population. The winner will be recognized at their regional library association’s general meeting and receive an award of $500. Past winners have included the Ajax Public Library and the Calgary Public Library.

This award is given in honour of William Kaye Lamb, the first National Librarian of Canada, Dominion Archivist and eminent historian (1904 – 1999).

PURPOSE OF THE AWARD

This award recognizes a library that has developed an ongoing service, program or procedure of benefit to seniors and/or a design and organization of buildings or facilities that improve access and encourage use by seniors. The award will be presented biennially when merited.

ELIGIBILITY

Any Canadian public, academic or special library is eligible for this award.

DEADLINE

This award is presented biennially (every two years) when merited. The deadline for this year’s award is December 1, 2017.

THE AWARD PRESENTATION

A representative of Ex Libris will present a suitably mounted framed certificate and a monetary award of $500 at the annual (2018) conference of the winning library’s regional library association.

APPLICATION PROCEDURE

Please provide:

1. Name of the library.

2. A statement of the service or facility of benefit to the senior population served by the library.

3. Descriptive material such as photographs, promotional or advertising materials used, articles or news items published may be included with the application to indicate the ongoing success of the project.

4. The application might include architectural drawings, details of the equipment used and an outline of the effect on staffing and budget.

5. The name of a contact person, telephone number, fax, e-mail, etc.

SELECTION PROCEDURE

A board committee of ExLibris will review the submissions and make a recommendation to the executives of both organizations for approval. The winner will be announced via listservs, websites and social media.

Voici le temps où les bibliothèques canadiennes nous font part du service exceptionnel qu’elles offrent aux aînés.

Une année sur deux, la Fédération canadienne des associations de bibliothèques/The Federation of Canadian Library Associations et ExLibris invitent les bibliothèques canadiennes à soumettre leur candidature pour le prix W. Kaye Lamb.

Le prix est décerné à la bibliothèque qui offre un service novateur et excellent à sa population d’aînés. La bibliothèque gagnante se verra décerner la distinction assortie d’une bourse de 500 $. Dans le passé, le prix a été remis à la librairie publique d’Ajax et à la bibliothèque publique de Calgary.

Ce prix est décerné en l’honneur de William Kaye Lamb, le premier bibliothécaire national du Canada, archiviste du Dominion et historien éminent (1904 – 1999).

OBJECTIF DU PRIX

Le prix vise à reconnaître une bibliothèque qui a établi un service permanent, un programme ou une procédure bénéfique pour les aînés et/ou une conception et une organisation d’édifices ou d’installations qui améliorent l’accès et encouragent l’utilisation par les aînés. Le prix sera remis tous les deux ans s’il y a une bibliothèque qui le mérite.

ADMISSIBILITÉ

Toute bibliothèque publique, bibliothèque d’établissement d’enseignement supérieur ou bibliothèque spéciale canadienne est admissible à ce prix.

ÉCHÉANCE

Ce prix est présenté tous les deux ans s’il y a une bibliothèque qui le mérite. L’échéance pour le prix de cette année est le 1er décembre 2017.

REMISE DU PRIX

Un représentant d’Ex Libris remettra un certificat encadré de manière appropriée et un prix en argent de 500 $ à la conférence annuelle (2018) de l’association régionale des bibliothèques à laquelle appartient la bibliothèque gagnante.

La Fédération canadienne des associations de bibliothèques/The Canadian Federation of Library Associations reconnaît avec gratitude l’appui généreux de l’Association Ex Libris qui parraine ce prix.

PROCÉDURE DE DEMANDE

Veuillez fournir :

1. Le nom de la bibliothèque.

2. Un énoncé du service ou de l’installation qui bénéficie aux aînés desservis par la bibliothèque.

3. Des documents descriptifs tels que des photographies, du matériel promotionnel ou publicitaire utilisé, des articles ou des nouvelles publiés peuvent être joints à la demande pour indiquer le succès continu du projet.

4. La demande peut être accompagnée de dessins architecturaux, de détails de l’équipement utilisé et un aperçu de l’effet sur la dotation en personnel et le budget.

5. Le nom de la personne ressource, son numéro de téléphone, son numéro de télécopieur, son adresse courriel, etc.

PROCÉDURE DE SÉLECTION

Un comité du conseil d’administration d’ExLibris examinera les candidatures et formulera des recommandations aux dirigeants des deux organismes pour approbation. La bibliothèque gagnante sera annoncée par l’intermédiaire des serveurs de listes et les médias sociaux.
