Wondering what the priorities of your provincial ministry are going to be for the next 4 years? The mandate letters for each ministry are now public. These letters, historically secret, essentially set out each Minister’s work plan and expectations by the Premier (however, each letter notes that priorities outlined are not exhaustive). From here, the Ontario Public Service (bureaucracy) develops policies and programs to implement the priorities outlined in the letters. Overall, the nonprofit sector was mentioned only briefly across 30 mandate letters. In all letters, the Premier does include a nod to the sector: “I ask that you continue to build on the strong relationships we have with the Ontario Public Service, the broader public sector, other levels of government, and the private, non-profit and voluntary sectors.” Here are four immediate mandates affecting the sector and ONN’s policy files:
